Driver assistance package level 1 or 2

957 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  TF007
Hello, I will order a Modena, somewhat loaded one except driver assistance(level 1 or 2) and that fabolous premium sound system upgrade ( yes i know it is great) Other than that car has everything I need comfortwise. Had to make this choice basically it meant too long a waiting otherwise

How is drivers assistance pack? Anyone has or has not could make a comment? Very usable in Maserati or not that great? objective opinions from fellow users?

Adaptive led matrix seems neat (included in drivers package) How is that in real driving conditions?

Thanks!

Hi @Umze
the main difference is that level 2 has an active driving assistant. This means that the vehicle steers autonomously. Works very well, especially on the highway. The intersection collision assistant is also included as well as the traffic sign recognition.
If you drive a lot on the highway, I would recommend this feature. If not, it is not absolutely necessary, because it does not work so well in towns and cities.
Hi TF007. Thanks for your message and comment. I rather wonder level 1 rather than level 2 which is significantly more expensive. In fact, due to scarce supply, I had to choose an already on the way Modena trim without a Driver pack Level 1 (or 2) over GTs with it. I am wondering if I am missing too much.

In this regard, how is the level 1 autonomous adaptive cruise control in the city traffic especially along with blind spot etc. systems? How is also adaptive headlights, which is also included in level 1 ? As per your comment, Active steering on level 2 sounds truly another level to be used on the more free ways though never have used a similar assistance before.
Level 1 simply keeps the distance and the car recognizes the lane and warns if you leave it. Pretty standard, as you find it in many other vehicles. This also works well in everywhere. I would never want to miss this, as I use it always.
At level 2, as I said, you can switch on the active control, which brings additional comfort on the highway.

Hi Umze,
I have been driving my new Grecale Modena for exactly one week and would like to give my first impressions. Previously, I drove a 2020 BMW X5 30d and was initially very skeptical about making this switch. I consciously chose a sportier alternative without sacrificing a certain level of comfort. As you can imagine, in terms of comfort, it's difficult to compete with an X5...;-). I am impressed by the exterior - the Modena combines elegance, sportiness, and at the same time exudes a touch of hedonism. The interior is impeccable and the craftsmanship down to the smallest detail is simply fantastic. I really didn't expect that. For a four-cylinder, the car drives almost like a six-cylinder, almost because I come from a legendary BMW six-cylinder and you can notice the difference a little bit. However, my negative points are as follows: 1. Autonomous driving: the assistant drives too close to the left lane, and I don't know if this is a mistake that can be corrected with a software upgrade (?) 2. Automatic speed limit takeover is unfortunately not available. Again, the question arises whether this can be added with a software upgrade? 3. Tank volume is too small at 62 liters. 4. In my opinion, the consumption is much too high (currently 12.3 liters per 100 km!) compared to the X5: 9.2 liters per 100 km. 5. There are too many acoustic notifications, some of which you don't know where they are coming from. Other than that, everything is still great so far.

Hi @Fabfive
totally agree with you, the engine is really well adjusted and feels great.
Let me comment on your points:
1. Autonomous driving: the assistant drives too close to the left lane, and I don't know if this is a mistake that can be corrected with a software upgrade (?)
That's true, but I haven't found it too irritating so far. Rather annoying I find that the simplest curves the system can't handle.
2. Automatic speed limit takeover is unfortunately not available. Again, the question arises whether this can be added with a software upgrade?
Also true. I was expecting the feature as well, and according to the package description, it should be available. But it is not...
3. Tank volume is too small at 62 liters.
Indeed, but that's a silly trend in the entire industry.
4. In my opinion, the consumption is much too high (currently 12.3 liters per 100 km!) compared to the X5: 9.2 liters per 100 km.
I have an 11.5 average mostly in GT mode, with a lot of short distance rides. Down to 9 is possible with longer steadier trips.
5. There are too many acoustic notifications, some of which you don't know where they are coming from. Other than that, everything is still great so far.
What bothers me the most is, if you are in autonomous mode, every time when the system stops recognizing the lane, a warning signal sounds. For this reason, you are forced to turn off the system completely within the city limits (back to normal level1 mode), because otherwise the alarm sounds all the time. I see this as the biggest annoyance.

Otherwise - one of the best cars I have ever driven. I came from Mercedes and had high expectations.

Hi TF007,
First of all, thanks for your nice feedback. Impressive to satisfy someone coming from 6 cylinder BMW engine, which is really nice. I have my tuned 320d GT not the same but BMW engines are always good.

Not that I will have drivers package but still good to ask:
You mentioned autonomous driving. This is level 2 right? What is automatic speed limit takeover? Coudnt find on the net. Drivers' package also includes adaptive matrix headlights, which I won't have (no adaptive) How was it in daily/nightly use?

I will have a Modena trim with laminated glass, air suspension, ventilated and heated seats fronts/rear, and almost all other important options. I think only major options I am missing are Drivers package(lv1 or 2) and 1200 Watt High Premium sound system.

Comfort is really important for me as well as sportiness. How is air suspension in this regard over bumps and bad road surface? How is road and tyre noise at high speed? Do you have laminated glass as option? Modena has a mechanical limited slip differential as standard. Have you noticed better traction in acceleration or turns comparing to BMW or other cars for ex.?

@Umze
I am happy to comment on that:

Automatic limit takeover, unfortunately does not work as far as I know. So at least have not (yet) figured out how that should work.

The adaptive lights: In principle, they have no special benefit during the day. At night, the curves are illuminated well and the high beam is always on and only the crossing vehicle is selectively faded out. (Similar to other manufacturers.) This is very convenient.

I also have the air suspension. It is dynamic-comfortable tuned and long bumps are absorbed very well. With large rims, you can still feel holes in the surface a bit, of course. However, the suspension is extremely well decoupled from the chassis, resulting in a very comfortable driving experience. In off-road mode, the suspension becomes even softer, which is recommended for bad roads. In sport mode, on the other hand, it gets very stiff.

I have the laminated glass, which dampens exterior noise noticeably more.

About the limited slip differential: You have grip at all times and acceleration out of corners is very sporty.
Compared to Mercedes you notice the more rear-focused behavior.

Does that help?
